Dilkhush Sheltered Workshop is associated with Dilkhush Special School, which imparts basic education to the children. On completion of their education in the school the children could join Dilkhush Sheltered Workshop. We have completed 30 years and at present have 50 students.Dilkhush Sheltered workshop is a place where intellectually challenged adults develop their special gifts and talents. It begun as a vocational centre in 1975, but as the number of adults increased the vocational centre began expanding and took on new activities, thus it changed from a vocational Centre to a Sheltered Workshop in 1981. The aim of the workshop is to offer the ex-students of our special school, who are 18 or above a sheltered atmosphere where they can explore their talents, develop them and put them to use, and even get some remuneration for their work, so that they too feel like contributing Adults in their families. Initially we began with wood work and produced very attractive educational aids for regular schools and decorative household articles, which were really in demand. But as the number of young adults increased there were some who had a skill in sewing or cooking so these too were put to use as we began a home science, needle work and arts and crafts sections. Thus our full fledged Sheltered Workshop began. Now we even take orders and it is a delight to see our workers stretching themselves to finish the order on or before the due date.

Our Objective

• To sharpen the latent skills of the intellectually challenged persons to bring out the creative best in them and to make them into productive members of our society.

• To provide gainful occupation to the intellectually challenged with guidance and care.

• To be self supportive from the proceeds of the sale.

From very humble beginnings, the Workshop has branched itself into 4 departments, namely:

1. Wood Work

2. Arts & Crafts

3. Home Science

4. Needle Work
